Club biography

Banbridge were the big story from ROUND1 as they beat Saint Germain before drawing 3-3 with Royal Leopold to top their group and advance to the KO16 for the first time.

They qualified for the EHL as runners-up in Ireland behind Lisnagarvey and they finished second in the 2016 EuroHockey Club Champions Trophy to help Ireland win back a second EHL spot for themselves.

Captain Matthew Bell is an extremely composed defender with an eye for goal from penalty corners while Eugene Magee is Ireland’s second most capped player of all-time.

Drew Carlisle is another who won a European bronze medal with Ireland in 2015 while Owen Magee, goalkeeper Gareth Lennox, Jamie Wright, Jonny McKee, Peter Brown, Philip Brown and Bruce McCandless have international caps.

Their top scorer from 2015/16 Stevie Dowds has stepped away from the squad but Dane Ward has scored plenty of goals since returning from Surbiton in England while Fraser Mills is another powerhouse up front.

This is their first KO16 game in EHL history and they will be hopeful of becoming the first Irish team to reach the KO8.
